This was the beginning of my disaffection for President Obama. While his aides and supporters claimed that he was going to ‘govern from the center’, one of his very first acts was to reverse the Bush executive order not to spend federal funds on paying for foreign abortions.
On January 23, 2009, Obama signed an executive order provided for federal aid to international organization involved in ‘family planning’ and abortions. Then he had the audacity to imply that Presidents Bush, Reagan, and the first Bush were playing ‘politics’ on the issue:
“For too long international family planning assistance has been used as a political wedge issue, the subject of a back-and-forth debate that has served only to divide us. I have no desire to continue this stale and fruitless debate.”
So the opposition to killing babies amounts to nothing but a "stale and fruitless debate" as far as Obama is concerned.
Now let’s approach this issue entirely from a fiscal perspective. Does it really make sense to spend $millions on foreign abortions when our country is in a deep recession? I don’t think so!
This action by Obama only make sense from a progressive pro-abort political perspective. Now who is really playing political football with this issue? Well, Obama is the new quarterback isn’t he.
