Prague: President Obama responded to the North Korean firing overnight of another ballistic missile by calling for total nuclear disarmament:
"Some argue that the spread of these weapons cannot be checked, that we are destined to live in a world where more nations and more people possess the ultimate tools of destruction. This fatalism is a deadly adversary, for if we believe that the spread of nuclear weapons is inevitable, then we are admitting to ourselves that the use of nuclear weapons is inevitable."
"I am not naive. This goal will not be reached quickly, perhaps not in my lifetime."
ODS Expositor: No, naive is exactly what he is if he thinks that a nuclear disarmament message will discourage North Korea or Iran from pursuing missiles and bombs. If the USA and the rest of the world unilaterally disarmed than we would all be at the mercy of tin horn dictators like North Korea’s Kim and Iran’s Ahmadinejad.
In his speech, President Obama called for the creation of an international nuclear energy bank that would provide nations nuclear fuel for energy. Also, he called for a new international treaty that would end all production of fissional material used in making nuclear weapons.
Again, he says that he is not naive and yet what do you call someone who accepts the Iranian and Korean explanations that they only want Nuclear power for the creation of energy and not for weapons?
If the Western nations did disarm than we most assuredly be at the mercy of Pakistan, China, along with Iran and North Korea in the near future. Now that would be the epitome of naivete.
