Tax Day Tea Parties

Hundreds of thousands of people showed up at more than 500 ‘Tax Day Tea Parties’ in 50 states today to protest the Obama administration ‘tax and spend’ policies. A timely issue considering today is April 15—the official federal income tax deadline.

The new grass-roots "tea party" movement is meant to bring up historical memories of the 1773 Boston Tea Party when anti-tax rebels dressed as Indians threw British tea into the water as a protest of new higher taxes on tea.

The biggest concern is for the huge deficits that congress and the Obama administration are creating. Obama even today reaffirmed his commitment for raising taxes only on those making over $250,000 per year. Many believe that this is misleading and ingenuous–that the numbers just do not add up. Particularly when he claims that in 2 years that his administration will have the deficits under control. At some point taxes will have to increase or inflation will be the result. Either way it is not good for the average American.

Another concern is indirect taxes that will be assessed if Obama follows through with his promise to address so-called ‘Global Warming’ through a ‘cap and trade’ policy that experts say could increase the energy costs to the average American family by $3,100.

The specter of some kind of national Health care is also a concern of many attending the rallies. Somebody has to actually pay for it all and many are concerned that they will end up with inferior health care at a greater cost if the Obama government takes over.
